Students are welcome to use the library whenever their classroom schedule permits, to browse, read, research or select and check out materials. Classes also visit the library weekly for age-appropriate story hour, literature study, library/research skills and book exchange. Books circulate for one week and may be renewed. Magazines may be borrowed overnight. Kindergartners and first graders may sign out one book at a time, while students in grades two through five may borrow two. Students also have literature cards to borrow one book for their class reading group and two research cards for projects requiring special books. Parents are welcome, too, to borrow books during school hours.
Teachers also bring their classes to the library to use the adjacent computer lab, the portable iBook lab or Alpha Smarts for researching on the internet, using curricular software, word processing or keyboarding. Students may use the library's reference computers for supervised individual research.
