Mission Statement

The New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc. (NYS PTA) recognizes that every child deserves excellence in education and in quality of life. NYS PTA will maintain its commitment and service to all children and to its diverse membership through increased parent and community awareness, advocacy, education and involvement.

Purposes of PTA

To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship.
To raise the standards of home life.
To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

Membership is the foundation of PTA/PTSA

Membership is open to anyone who believes in the National PTA Mission and Purposes. The PTA/PTSA is committed to being inclusive in its efforts to represent and assist all who nurture and educate children. It not only welcomes but actively seeks in its male and female membership the widest diversity of cultures, races, ethnicities, creeds, and economic and educational status. Individual members may belong to one or more local units and pay dues in each. Every person who joins a local PTA/PTSA automatically becomes a member of both the state and National PTA. –National PTA Handbook-
