Pertussis Information
There has been an increase in pertussis over the past few years. A new vaccine Tdap is available for adolescents and adults. It is required for all 6th grade students when they turn 11 years old. It is also strongly recommended for all teenagers and adults.
If someone is diagnosed with pertussis they will need to take antibiotics and stay out of school for five days. If someone at school has a suspicious cough they will be asked to see a health care provider to be evaluated for pertussis.
See the pertussis fact sheet for more information about pertussis. If you have any questions please feel free to talk with your school nurse, private primary care provider or the health department at 607-274-6604.
