Academic Plus/BJM Enrichment Program, Inc.

Academic Plus/BJM Enrichment Program, Inc. is an after-school/extended-day enrichment homework help program for children enrolled at Beverly J. Martin Elementary School. The program is a unique collaboration between the Ithaca City School District and the BJM Enrichment Program, Inc.

The program serves children in grades K-5 and is in operation whenever school is in session. The program is based in room 225 and operates from the end of the school day (1:55 p.m.) until 5:00 p.m. Parents and caregivers may pick-up children between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m.

Each day, children in Academic Plus receive a healthy snack, homework assistance and have the opportunity to join in many clubs . Many activities and clubs, such as People of the Longhouse and Science Club, with Main Street Science and The Science Center, are closely linked to the NYS Standards. The Esperanza club serves children for whom Spanish is their first language. Children are involved the arts, recreational games, music clubs, and field trips into the surrounding community.

Families are always invited to be part of the program, and to be involved in their child's school community.

The program benefits from the many volunteers in the community. Ithaca College, Cornell University, and Ithaca High School students, as well as community members make a minimum commitment of two hours per week to atend the program and assist children with homework and scheduled activities.
