A Number a Day
Begin the day with a discussion about the day’s number. Students connect that number to other ideas (birthdays, number of boys or girls in the class, number of teeth lost so far that month, etc.) They research these ideas using computer resources. Students express these ideas using drawing or painting software, publishing in a classroom newsletter, or inserting on a classroom Web page.

Videotape Class Events
Take a movie of a caterpillar going into its pupa, use iMovie to manipulate it for later viewing on the web. Standard 4

Animal Research
Can be narrowed to ocean, mammals, arctic, etc. Take notes from print and web resources: from the library web page, students follow directions, clicking on the appropriate links, to arrive at
http://www.EnchantedLearning.com/coloring/ where they locate their animals and print out the page. Standards 1, 5.

Classroom Pet Decision
Students research pet care and cost. They use the information to select the best pet for their classroom. Standard 5, 6.

Use Neighborhood Map Machine to create maps of the community. Standard 3.

Butterfly Symmetry
Use a black and white template of a butterfly. Import it into KidPix or another drawing program. Students make colorful symmetrical designs in the drawing program and publish them on paper, as a slide show or on the web. Standards 3, 4.
