Read to Me Anytime Any Place
Fifth graders write original poetry in a style similar to Dr. Seuss and read their poems to their kindergarten buddies. Document and share with digital images and PowerPoint slide show. Standards 3, 4.

Literature Group Character Studies
Students use Inspiration to collect and web information about character traits as they read their book, noting particular actions or dialogue that give examples of the character trait.  Students use their web to write a paragraph describing their character.  Standards 3, 4.

Baseball Card Project
After reading aout the Negro Baseball League in their reading textbook, students use Yahooligans and the Library of Congress American Memory section to found out information about the League players and umpires. They also did a Google image search. The final product was an 8 x 11 "baseball card." Standard 1, 2, 5.

Symmetry Exploration
Explore various forms of symmetry at http://www.adrianbruce.com/Symmetry/about.htm
and discuss.  Students use pattern blocks to create line or rotational symmetry patterns.  These may be photographed for later display. Standards 3, 4.

Journey North: A Global Study of Wildlife Migration
and Seasonal Change
Interactive plant study of tulips.  Compare blooming times locally and around the world. Standards 4, 5, 6.

Mystery Class: An 11-week investigation in which students try to find 10 secret "Mystery Classes" hiding around the globe. The changing amount of sunlight at each site is the central clue. Standards 4, 5, 6.

Nutrition
Use a spreadsheet to record nutritional content of foods. Analyze eating habits and plan healthy meals and snacks. Standard 6.

Erie Canal
Take a virtual trip on the Erie Canal, following fourteen-year-old Elizabeth as she travels from Amsterdam to Syracuse on a packet boat in the 1840s. Standards 3, 6.

Iroquois Webquest
Teams of students assume they have been contracted by a Museum to unravel the mysteries of seven recently acquired Iroquois artifacts. Each team must research many facets of Iroquois culture to assist the museum in properly identifying the artifacts. Standards 3, 5.

Lewis and Clark: Adventure into the Unknown
A webquest with four-member teams as Indian Affairs Expert, Botanist, Zoologist, or Topographer collect information, answer questions, and learn a great deal. Share your knowledge in a board game. Standards 3, 5.

National Inspirer
Using this program, teams of students travel throughout the United States in search of important resources and commodities. Standard 3.

Political Cartoons from The Revolutionary War Era
Visual literacy: As part of this unit, students view a selection of political cartoons (scanned from books or from the Web) and analyze them for setting, characters, and symbols used to persuade readers. Standard 2.

Presidents Project
Students do biography research and publish reports using a word processor, then move their reports into HyperStudio.  They use the internet to capture a picture and move it onto their HyperStudio card. A class stack is assembled.

Students work in teams researching regions or waterways of N.Y.S, gather information from print and electronic resources, use Inspiration to organize their findings, publish as brochure or booklet illustrated with images from the Web or other sources; cite appropriately. Standards 2, 4, 5.
