Technology Literacy Standards
& Sample Lessons K-8,

July 2003

We have adopted the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) as a base for our ICSD Technology Literacy Standards. NETS introduces their standards with the statement:

To live, learn, and work successfully in an increasingly complex and information-rich society, students must be able to use technology effectively. Within an effective educational setting, technology can enable students to become:

  • Capable information technology users
  • Information seekers, analyzers, and evaluators
  • Problem solvers and decision makers
  • Creative and effective users of productivity tools
  • Communicators, collaborators, publishers, and producers
  • Informed, responsible, and contributing citizens

Notes:

  • Technology skills are usually best taught when infused into ongoing curricular activities.
  • Cross grade level collaboration (i.e., K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8) will be necessary to assure that standards are addressed at each grade level.
