Standard 1. Basic operations and concepts.
1.1 Students demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operation of technology systems.
  • Understand network components and their interrelationship
  • Learn vocabulary (Some terms that will be useful are: active window, application, document, file, open application, running application, menu bar, application menu, finder, hard drive, folder, monitor, CPU, mouse, server, floppy disk/drive, desktop, hard disk/hard drive, printer, keyboard, icon, clipboard, Internet, network, server, virus)
1.2 Students are proficient in the use of technology.
  • Manage files (save to disk, hard drive or server, find and open desired file or application)
  • Start computer from off
  • Restart computer from menu or keyboard
  • Shut down of computer
  • Quit/exit
  • Bookmark sites
  • Work in multiple windows
  • Develop mouse skills (dragging, double clicking, selecting, highlighting)
  • Print
  • Develop keyboarding skills
  • Take care in use of media (handling CDs and floppies, no food in lab)

  • Use technology tools for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for various audiences
