Committee on Special Education ~ Ithaca City School District

BOARD OF EDUCATION

DISTRICT MISSION STATEMENT

Our Mission is to: educate every student to become a lifelong learner; to foster academic, social, emotional and physical development; to nurture an understanding and respect for all people in a multicultural and multiethnic world; and to promote responsible citizenship in a democracy.

PRIORITIES SUPPORTING THE DISTRICT'S MISSION STATEMENT
  1. Continuing to eliminate race and class as predicators for student academic, social and co-curricular performance;
  2. Reemphasizing the commitment to a "culture of evaluation" in all the District's activities, with the primary focus on improvements in academic programs and resulting outcomes;
  3. Guaranteeing that every student shall have both access and sufficient resources to reach his or her full academic, social, and co-curricular potential;
  4. Continuing to provide for the safety and security of all students and staff, and to begin promoting aggressive new strategies to encourage wellness and healthy lifestyle decisions; and,
  5. Evaluating the results of elementary school redistricting, and completing the unfinished tasks associated with the redistricting initiative; viz., rethinking feeder patterns for the middles schools, and starting times for all schools.
