Message from
Dr. Judith Pastel, Superintendent:
The ICSD Board of Education adopted the February
22 version #2 Scenario for elementary school redistricting
on March 22, 2005.
On April 26, 2005 the ICSD Board of Education postponed
decisions regarding middle school feeder patterns and
start/end times for elementary, middle and high school
levels. Therefore, no feeder
pattern changes or start/end time changes will be implemented
in the 2005-06 school year. The ICSD Board of Eduction will address these issues during the 2005-06 school year.
There will be public forums held on the outstanding redistricting issues on the following dates:
October 27, 2005, 7:00PM
Administration Building - Board Room
Redistricting: starting and ending times

Redistricting: middle school feeder patterns |
Background information: Redistricting was last addressed
in Ithaca approximately 14 years ago. Since then, neighborhood
demographics have changed and so has the number of children
living in each school attendance zone. In addition,
mandates from the State and Federal governments require
small instructional spaces for educating children with
disabilities and those in need of academic intervention
services. Over time, the mandates and population shifts
have affected building capacity at our eight elementary
schools, leaving four of them with insufficient space
and the other four with excess space.
For additional information, please review my presentations
to the Board from March
10th and March
22nd.
