Most maps have a title.

Neighborhood map

The title on this map tells us that it is a neighborhood map.





Most maps also use labels.
Fingerlakes map
This map uses labels to show us where cities are and to tell us the names of the lakes.
Many maps use color to make it easier to see places on a map.

Map of New York region
This map uses color to make it easier to see the states and bodies of water of the northeast region of the United States of America. The pink area also shows us a small area of Canada.

Many maps have a scale to tell us the size of the place the map represents.

This map shows how you can use your ruler or a piece of string to figure out the distance between two places.
Most maps use symbols so that we can see where certain types of things are located.

Agriculture map

This map uses symbols to show where different types of food are produced in New York state.
