The Long Island Region is the most south-eastern area in New York state.  It comprises Long Island, just east of the New York City region and south of the Hudson Valley region.  Long Island is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Long Island Sound.

Many bridges and tunnels connect Long Island to New York City.

The Long Island Region has many beaches and one large hill running along the middle of the island.

Fishing and agriculture are two important parts of the Long Island economy.
There are many grape vineyards and fruit orchards.
