The Thousand Islands Region is named for the more than 1000 islands in Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River to the north.
The Thousand Islands Region is located in the northeastern part of New York state. It is bordered to the north by the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, and the Canadian province of Ontario. The Adirondacks Region borders the Thousand Islands Region to the east.
The many miles of lake and river bordering this region make it a good place for fishing, swimming, boating, camping, and hiking.
The largest cities in the region are Watertown and Ogdensburg.
