 Country

A country or nation is an independent territory, or area. 

A country usually contains many smaller states or provinces.  The United States is made up of 50 states.

The map below shows the three countries of North America. 

The yellow lines show the boundaries between North America, Canada to the north, the United States in the middle and Mexico, to the south. 

Mouse over each area to see the name of the country.
