Rochester, New York

Population:  206,759

Rochester is the third largest city in New York state.

Location:  Rochester is located in the Western region of New York state on Lake Ontario and the Genesee River.  The Genesee River and the Erie Canal converge in the southern part of the city.

In the early 1800's Rochester was known as "Flour City" because of the large amount of flour milled in the region.  Many flour mills were located along the Genesee River and the flour was then shipped to other parts of the country on the Erie Canal.
