Population: 8,274,527 (2007)

New York City is the largest city in New York state and the largest city in the the United States. 

The city sits at the mouth of the Hudson River where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

New York City is divided into five buroughs; these are: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. 

The city was called New Amsterdam until 1664.
