The Adirondack Region is in the northeast part of New York state and covers one-third of the state's land area.
The Adirondack Region contains the ten million year old Adirondack Mountains, and Adirondack Park, “the largest wilderness area east of the Mississippi River” (http://visitadirondacks.com/About-Our-Regions.html).
There are many places to hike, canoe, and enjoy nature in the mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, and farmlands of the Adirondack Region.
Lake Champlain, and Lake George are the largest lakes in this region.
Mount Marcy, also in the Adirondack Region, is the tallest mountain in the state, at 5,344 feet above sea level.
Cities in the Adirondack Region include Plattsburgh, Malone, Canton, Potsdam, and Glens Falls.
It is about a three and a half hour drive from Ithaca to the Adirondack region.
